Katie Deming, MD
Dr. Katie Deming is a Radiation Oncologist, physician leader, inventor, and entrepreneur. She is the CEO/Founder of MAKEMERRY, a line of intimates for women with sensitive skin from radiation therapy. She holds a utility patent and has several inventions in development. As a physician leader, Dr. Deming designed and launched Kaiser Permanente's first end to end Cancer Service Line. She served as the Medical Director for the Cancer Service Line and on Kaiser Permanente's National Cancer Leaders Council. Dr. Deming's most recent accomplishment is sweeping the University of Oregon's Duck Tank Pitch Competition, where she took home both the 'Judges' Choice' and 'Audience's Favorite' awards.
Rikin Patel, DO
Dr. Rikin Patel spent 11 years as a partner in a private orthopedic practice specializing interventional Orthopedics and Spine Care. In 2012, he expanded his practice and created a regenerative musculoskeletal service line focusing on platelet rich plasma and bonemarrow concentrate injections. In 2013, he founded RideKleen, a mobile detail shop on wheels to service the growing car share industry. From 2013 to 2018, RideKleen grew to 7 major US cities before being acquired by COX Automotive in 2018. With the acquisition he left his medical practice to become the CSO and COO of RideKleen. In 2019, the company grew 400% expanding to 13 US markets. Dr. Patel is also pursuing endeavors in the health and wellness space, recently opening the first OsteoStrong center in NJ. He consults and advises for multiple start ups with a continued special interest in physician entrepreneurs.
Sylvia Romm, MD
Dr. Sylvia Romm is Chief Innovation Officer for Atlantic Health System, which includes over 7 hospitals and outpatient care centers that services over half of New Jersey. She is also the Founder and Chairperson of SonderHealth, a telehealth company focused on the nutrition needs of infants through adults. Her company was acquired by American Well where was VP of Clinical Transformation for several years. Dr. Romm works with health systems, health plans, pharma companies, and innovators to design and implement their digital health strategies. She has authored numerous articles in New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst, Forbes, KevinMD, Huffington Post and also was named as FierceHealthCare's 8 Influential Women Reshaping Health IT.

Stephanie Persondek, DO
Dr. Stephanie Persondek is a practicing OB/GYN and is the co-founder and owner of Outpost Innovations, a product development company. Currently she holds a provisional patent on the GentleSee, a camera and monitor system used on the Labor and Delivery unit of the hospital. She and her husband co-founder are also passionate about bridging the gap in rural health care, and they are developing a telehealth device that will hopefully succeed in doing this. The company has also recently expanded from healthcare into the consumer industry. She is also the Director of the Women’s Health Clinical Clerkship at Rocky Vista University Utah and is on faculty at America’s OB/GYN Board Review. She spends her free time writing her women’s health blog A Taste of Her Own Medicine.
Monica Chmielewski, Esq.
Monica R. Chmielewski is a partner and health care and life sciences lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP and is the vice chair of the firm's Health Care Industry Team. She focuses her practice in representing health care providers, telemedicine, medical device companies, and pharmacies in the area of health care, health care transactions, clinical research, supply chain, and food and drug law. Monica advises a number of clients, including hospitals, health systems and physician groups on regulatory
and compliance issues presented by telemedicine and telehealth. Her counsel includes, but is not limited to, structuring and negotiating professional services agreements for telemedicine services and composing
telemedicine policies and procures.
Saya Nagori, MD
Dr. Nagori is the Founding Physician for SimpleHealth.com, a telemedicine platform that provides asynchronous telemedicine exams for both vision and birth control across the United States. In 2018, Dr. Nagori created the Medicine Innovation and Entrepreneurship Conference for Physicians looking to get involved in the start up world, and use their skills beyond traditional clinical medicine. The inaugural conference took place in April 2019 and sold out months before the event. She is also an advisor and consultant to several companies in the digital health and health technology space including ConnectOnCall.com, a physician founded company revolutionizing after hours patient care. She has also created a telemedicine course for physicians who are interested in expanding their scope of practice to offer digital health services and has started FemHealth®, a female health and wellness initiative with participation from hundreds of female health experts.
Maneesh Gulati, Esq.
Maneesh Gulati is a partner in the Intellectual Property Group of McCarter & English. During his 18 years of practice, Maneesh has assisted clients, including start-ups, universities, privately held companies and Fortune 100 biotechnology companies, in developing patent portfolios and evaluating existing patent landscapes as clients seek to develop and bring products to market.
Specifically, Maneesh has managed and developed patent portfolios, including drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the genomics, chemical, biotechnological, biomarker, cosmetic and mechanical fields. Maneesh has managed and actively prosecuted substantial patent portfolios with applications throughout the world. In particular, Maneesh has managed and prosecuted portfolios protecting FDA approved drugs and biologics. Rania Nasis, MD, MBA
Dr. Rania Nasis is a seasoned executive who helps build early stage healthcare startups. She is Founder and CEO of Starlings, an advisory firm that works with early stage healthcare startups on strategy, operations and finding product-market fit. She is also a Director of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs (SoPE), a non-profit global biomedical and healthcare innovation network, and a Founding Partner of Pow!Labs, an early-stage technology venture studio. She was formerly Chief Operating Officer of Element3 Health, and prior to that, she was Managing Director at Poliwogg Holdings, a healthcare focused investment firm. Dr. Nasis was also the General Manager at California Stem Cell, Inc., a cellular therapeutics company (acquired by NeoStem, Inc. for $124M), where she guided daily operations and oversaw development of novel cell therapy products and research tools.

John Dayton, MD
Dr. John R. Dayton is an Emergency Physician, author, angel investor, and entrepreneur. He has served in national and state leadership positions with his specialty society, the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). He writes about healthcare innovation for Emergency Physicians Monthly and contributes to ACEPNow and MDCalc. Dr. Dayton co-founded Utah's Chapter of the Society of Physician Entrepreneurs, and does consulting work with AngelMD and NODE.Health. In addition to investing with the SLC Angels, he advises several health tech startups focused on medical devices, wearables, and digital health. He also founded MedForums.com, a 'yelp' for medical education, to help Physicians find the best formal CME, board review courses, and #FOAMed.
Shetal "Nicky" Shah, MD
Dr. Shetal "Nicky" Shah is a practicing Ophthalmologist and Founder and CEO of Eyemetics, a beauty brand that offers clean and functional beauty products. Through her clinical practice and conversations with her patients, she realized that there was a need in eye area beauty products for make up and cleansers that were gentle yet functional. She set out to solve this problem by using her expertise as an Ophthalmologist and also working with beauty industry experts to develop a unique complex of bioactive ingredients, which she then patented. She then incorporated her technology into her line of products. Dr. Shah is passionate about
bringing women beauty products that will both make women feel beautiful and keep them healthy.
Rafid Fadul, MD
Dr. Rafid Fadul is a board-certified pulmonologist, critical care, and internal medicine physician. He completed his medical residency at Georgetown University while obtaining an MBA in Medical Services Management at Johns Hopkins University. After working in private practice, he went on to pursue a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Fadul served as a founding partner and Chief Medical Officer of Community Intensivists, and now serves in the same role with Wheel. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Fadul serves on the board of directors of MedWish International (www.medwish.org) and invests time in community development locally. He has been working in the telehealth space abroad and domestically since 2009.
Sylvan Waller, MD
Dr. Sylvan Waller is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and also the former Chief Medical Officer of MDLIVE, one of the largest telemedicine companies in the United States. He is a seasoned healthcare executive with a passion for innovation and leveraging technology to improve healthcare. His past executive leadership roles included founder and CEO of a consumer focused telemedicine company, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President for several national physician practice management companies, where he provided executive oversight and direction for their medical and clinical operations. In addition, he worked for Kaiser Permanente and Accenture as a Management Consultant. Dr. Waller currently works with healthcare companies and individuals focusing on technology innovation, telemedicine, and entrepreneurship.
Sunit Jariwala, MD
Dr. Sunit Jariwala is the Director of Clinical and Research Innovation for the Department of Medicine at Einstein/Montefiore. He is also Director of Allergy/Immunology Research and created ASTHMAXcel, an app that delivers personalized asthma education to both children and adults. He has been the Principal Investigator for 12 grants, and his app has been awarded over $2 million in grant funding. He is currently extending the tool to other conditions such as type 2 diabetes, COPD, and congestive heart failure. To train the next generation of physician innovators, he is creating an Innovation Biodesign Training Program, which will launch in July 2020. Dr. Jariwala also completed the Entrepreneurship Lab Bio and Healthtech NYC (ELabNYC) accelerator program. He is the Vice Chair and Chair-Elect of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology's Health Informatics, Technology & Education Committee.
Alex Bargar is the Vice President of Clinical Services at Simple Health, in charge of healthcare delivery operations, pharmacy, and legal/regulatory compliance. Alex is a recognized expert in the telehealth space, and built the Simple Health infrastructure from the ground up; Simple Health has delivered digital care to hundreds of thousands of patients. Alex has been invited by the FTC to speak publicly about telehealth and emerging technologies, and has testified in half a dozen state capitals in support of telemedicine-friendly legislation. Prior to Simple Health, Alex was a corporate strategist at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. Before that, he was a management consultant specializing in pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Alex is also a proud medical school dropout, and can frequently be spotted drinking coffee from his (in hindsight, exorbitantly expensive) Boston University School of Medicine alumni mug.
Jay Bhatt, DO, MPH
Dr. Jay Bhatt serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the American Hospital Association and President of HRET. Dr. Bhatt and his team was awarded to support development of tools of patient safety in ambulatory environments, multi-sectorial collaborations, and age friendly health systems.
Prior to this role, he was the first Chief Health Officer at the Illinois Health & Hospital Association. In this role, he led large improvement projects including the Hospital Engagement Network (HEN), which were aimed at reducing readmissions and hospital acquired conditions. He has launched several improvement collaboratives; managed the Medical Executive Forum; led the Midwest Alliance for Patient Safety; launched a physician leadership academy, and designed and advanced a statewide high reliability initiative. Previously, he was Managing Deputy Commissioner and Chief Innovation Officer for the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). There he led the implementation of Healthy Chicago, the city's public health agenda, and innovations in cross-sector partnerships, predictive analytics, epidemiology and informatics.
Elizabeth Cho-Fertikh, PHD
Dr. Cho-Fertikh is the Cofounder and Managing Director of MEDA Angels, a healthcare-focused angel investor group that she established with physician investor colleagues. The Washington, DC-based MEDA Angels invests in mid-seed and Series A stage opportunities in health and wellness segments from across the country. She is a trained cancer biologist with over 25 years cross-functional experience in academia, industry and startups spanning drug development, regulatory affairs, commercialization and capital raising. Along with a team of Advisors, she also runs ECF Biosolutions, an advisory practice that counsels investors and startups in a suite of areas. Dr. Cho-Fertikh is also a mentor at incubators in the DC area including Halcyon House, Johns Hopkins, the Korea Innovation Center-DC, and frequently speaks at investment forums and judges startup pitch showcases. She received her BA from Johns Hopkins, her MS from Georgetown University, her PhD from Thomas Jefferson University, and completed her postdoctoral training in cancer epigenetics at the NIH and Harvard Medical School.
Anurag Gupta, MD, MBA
Dr. Anurag Gupta is the Founder and CEO of Tembo Health, a telemedicine startup providing multi-specialty telemedicine services (e.g., psychiatry, cardiology, remote patient monitoring) for seniors in nursing homes. Tembo's proprietary technology provides improved access to patient data, allowing clinicians to work smarter and faster. Dr. Gupta is also an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at both the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Zucker School of Medicine. During his tenure at Brigham & Women's hospital, Dr. Gupta led bioinformatics teams to build real-time clinical decision support tools. At Northwell health, Dr. Gupta led transformation teams across 20 hospitals. While at the Boston Consulting Group, he focused on healthcare strategy across Pharma, MedTech, and Providers. While at Imagen Technologies, a venture-backed medical device startup building radiology artificial intelligence algorithms, Dr. Gupta served as both Head of Clinical Operations and Head of Strategic Partnerships.
Aarti Ravikumar , MD, MBA
Dr. Ravikumar is the Director of Transformation at Atlantic Health System. The innovation team seeks to transform healthcare delivery by quickly adopting new technology and care models that create a truly affordable and accessible health care system. Atlantic Health System’s approach to this vision is two-sided: inside-out innovation and
outside-in innovation. Dr. Ravikumar leads the latter, which seeks to understand the wave of digitization and product offering on the market and build efficient processes to enable Atlantic Health System to react quickly and be a best-in-class partner with outside industry. She is working on creating an expedited New Technology Review process that seeks to enable Atlantic Health System to quickly
access, implement, and adopt innovative tools and technologies. Prior to her role at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Ravikumar has held previous roles including performance
improvement manager at Montefiore Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer at Sun Scientific, a medical device company. She is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology and received her MBA from Columbia University.
Dhaval Bhanusali, MD
Dr. Bhanusali is a Dermatologist and digital health entrepreneur based in Manhattan. He is the Founder of Health Digital, a hybrid venture capital/ development platform that Forbes noted “could revolutionize health care innovation.” Dr. Bhanusali has been featured on Elite Daily, Buzzfeed, Yahoo, Askmen, GQ, Business Insider, the Atlantic, People Magazine, Teen Vogue, Bustle, Self, WebMD, and countless other media outlets. His novel laser techniques and humanitarian efforts were featured on ABC , FOX, and People Magazine. In 2019, he was the Dermatologic formulation scientist behind Amazon’s first exclusive skincare line, Fast Beauty Co. Dr. Bhanusali also helped build Skin Medicinals, a technology platform that helps provide access to compounded medications at affordable prices for patients. He also co-founded AIRE Health, an EMR platform in Dermatology and HairStim, a technology platform providing access to personalized hair loss formulations. Between being active in digital health and his dermatology practice in NYC (Hudson Dermatology and Laser Surgery), he spends time working with non-profits and serving as a member of the American Academy of Dermatology’s media advisory team.
Julianne Soriano, MHA
Julianne Soriano serves as the Manager for Atlantic Health Advancements at Atlantic Health System, headquartered in Morristown, NJ. The innovation team seeks to transform healthcare delivery by quickly adopting new technology and care models that create a truly affordable and accessible health care system. In her role, Julianne focuses on inside-out innovation, centered around building a culture of innovation amongst our diverse clinicians and fostering a community that generates and supports problem identification and the solutions to solve them. Prior to her role at Atlantic Health System, Julianne served as the Senior Operations Manager of the Healthcare Transformation Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, a lab focused on inspiring collaboration across front line clinicians and leveraging novel technologies to improve the delivery of care. She has also held roles in strategy, business development and technology implementation at Evolent Health and Accenture. She received her MHA from Seton Hall University and an undergraduate degree in IT Management from the University of Notre Dame.
Alfred Atanda, MD
Dr. Alfred Atanda Jr. is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine at
the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Atanda also completed fellowships in pediatric orthopedic surgery, at Alfred I DuPont Hospital for Children, and in sports medicine surgery, at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University. His future goals and aspirations are to re-imagine how healthcare is delivered by leveraging digital health and telemedicine technology to appropriately triage, navigate, evaluate, and treat orthopedic patients. In addition, he does motivational speaking, specifically for medical trainees and new physicians, to help them navigate the complex healthcare landscape and help streamline their transition to becoming a practicing physician.
Kavita Patel, MD
Dr. Kavita Patel joined NEA in 2017 as a Venture Partner on the healthcare team. In addition to her role at NEA, Kavita is a practicing primary care physician at Johns Hopkins Medicine. Her expertise has earned her a regular expert commentary spot on radio and print media, including National Public Radio, CBS, Newsweek, and MarketWatch. Kavita also served in the Obama Administration as director of policy for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement in the White House, where she played a key role in design of healthcare reform legislation. As deputy staff director on health, she served as a policy analyst and trusted aide to the late Senator Edward Kennedy and was part of the senior staff of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee under his leadership. She also has a research and clinical background having worked as a researcher at the RAND Corporation and a practicing physician in California and Oregon. In addition to these accomplishments, Kavita serves on the board of several organizations including Dignity Health, Tesaro, and SSM Health Care.
Albert Tai is the founder and CEO of Hypercare, a healthcare technology company that connects the right healthcare providers at the right time to collaborate for patient care in hospital and community settings. Starting at 11 years old, he started programming and created several software companies. During his masters degree, he shadowed doctors in the hospital on-call and was shocked that they still used pagers and fax machines to communicate about patients. . He then devoted himself to creating a better solution for patient care.
